About the project

"The Campus Global Theme program identifies a topic linked to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and engages the entire UC Davis community in related discussion, learning, discovery, and action.

"The Campus Global Theme Transformative Energies: Repowering and Empowering the Planet, dares to imagine repowering and empowering the planet as being two sides of the same coin, bringing together the UC Davis community in this exploration of the humanistic, social, and scientific dimensions of energy."

Sketches and Drafts

The Campus Global Theme illustration had to be simple enough to be used on various web deliverables, yet complex enough to stand on its own and encompass the full meaning of its theme this year – Transformative Energies: Repowering and Empowering the Planet.

Iterations

After sketching and revisiting several different ideas, the chosen concept was a globe with various hidden visual elements: a face to represent humanity (lower left edge of the globe), some fish to represent other living things, and a sun, a river, some clouds, and wind to represent variations in climate. This particular design also went through multiple rounds of iterations.

Final Deliverables

Final deliverables included the logo, as well as variations of digital flyers and banners for our website and socials.
